What Mindbody does well
Mindbody is built for scale. It's the platform of choice for large fitness studios, multi-location spa chains, and businesses with complex class schedules, membership management, and reporting needs. The class-and-membership feature set is deep; the consumer-facing app is widely installed; the brand recognition opens doors.
How they price
Mindbody publishes one number — "starting at $79 a month per location" — and then asks you to talk to sales for everything else. Their tiers, their add-ons, and the AI concierge all price by quote. Independent reporting puts what businesses actually pay well above that starting figure, before payment processing.
The part worth reading twice
Mindbody's marketplace charges a new-client commission of 20% of the first purchase, capped at $30, when a client books you through their app. If that first purchase is a free or $0 intro offer, the fee doesn't disappear — it moves to the client's next purchase within three months. And when it isn't obvious where a client came from, Mindbody decides: their published tie-breaker is an in-app survey asking the client how they found you. A client who walked past your window and searched your name can still be attributed to the marketplace.
Listing in that marketplace isn't optional — it's bundled into every tier, including the entry one. There's no version of Mindbody where you buy the software and skip the marketplace that shows your clients other studios. Verify all of this on their site; these terms change.
How Atelier prices
Paid plans from $29/month ($49 with your own processor), published on the pricing page with no setup fee — and even our top plan, with the full website, loyalty, reviews and in-person payments all in, is $149/month regardless of team size. Mindbody's public pricing puts the entry tier well above that, with two-way SMS and advanced reporting commonly gated to higher tiers, plus per-location scaling and a branded mobile app sold as a separate (and typically expensive) monthly add-on. For most appointment-based businesses, Atelier is several times less expensive across the configurations Mindbody is sized for. Verify current Mindbody pricing on their site.
Where Atelier is different
Atelier is meaningfully simpler and meaningfully cheaper. Operators who don't need Mindbody's deep class-and-membership tooling end up paying for capability they'll never use. Atelier focuses on appointment-based businesses (salons, individual instructors, therapists, groomers) and puts you on an industry-fit URL — vertical-branded subdomain on day one, your own domain when you connect one.
The structural difference is who the internet thinks you are. Mindbody has no website product: your booking either sits behind a widget on a site you built elsewhere, or it lives as a profile on their domain — where your reviews, your services, and every link anyone points at "your page" build their search ranking, on a page that also shows nearby competitors. With Atelier, that same content is a website on your own domain, and the structured data behind it is generated from your live booking catalog. Your clients also aren't billed a commission to find you.
Where Mindbody might fit better
If you run a high-volume yoga studio with hundreds of weekly class slots, complex multi-package memberships, and serious reporting needs across multiple locations, Mindbody's depth in that specific configuration is hard to match.
Who each is best for
Mindbody fits high-volume class-and-membership businesses that need its specific tooling and can absorb the price tag. Atelier fits the much larger group of appointment-based businesses where Mindbody is overkill — independent professionals, small teams, multi-location operators who want predictable pricing.
